3.0 engine noise

3.0 engine noise
I have a 2002 3.0 Ranger with a manual transmission. Any time I get below 1500 RPM the engine makes this weird noise that sounds almost like the noise a diesel engine makes. Does this happen to everybodys 3.0 or just mine?

Does not sound good dav. Are any lights on when you hear the noise? If you are not sure what the noise is I would suggest having someone listen that might. Diagnosing it over the internet is difficult at best. It could be so many things.

I had that on my 4.2 V-6 back in 2000 on my F-150 since have gotten rid of it and before I got rid of it I put a flowmaster 50 series on there ( single into duels ) and it made it sound different . I think that also is a sign that maybe you shifted to early its kinda like a boggin sound rite ?
