Do water pumps make a squealing noise when going bad? My 3.0 has a noise which sounds somewhat like a belt and goes away for a while when I get the rpms up high.
Sorry, I forgot to say that it is a 93 w/157,000 miles. I'll replace the tensioner pulley and belt. Its the pully something that I have to get from a Ford dealer?
yes napa has the pulley for 17 buck or the whole assembly for 67. i'd personally get the whole assembly. the belt is about 20 bucks. i'm sure you can get the parts cheaper at another parts store but you get what you pay for.
Remove the belt... start it up.. see if the noise is still there.
If it is, replace the cam sensor synchronizer.. it can sound just like a belt.
The cam sensor synchronizer installs where the distributor used to go (this is assuming you have a newer model with coil packs instead of a distributor)... just make sure you time it EXACTLY to the same position of the old one..
At about 55,000 mike truck was squeeking, and i replaced the idler pulley and the belt and it went away. Water pumps sometimes grind when the bearing goes bad in them, but most of the time, the seal goes out and they **** coolant on the ground.
