I take online classes with CTC (central texas college) and have many friends who do online classes from numerous schools. Currently deployed to Afghanistan so really thats the only way we can do anything school wise. Did you have a question about something?
i have an associates degree in criminal justice. i was looking to complete my ba. i dont know if i will have the time to do this at a regular school, and was looking at the online schools....if there legite, etc....
My wife has been 'attending' University of Phoenix Online, for at least two years (maybe three).
She will get her Bachelor's Degree in Business Management in June.
From what she's told me, they are one of the 'better' online schools.
(She might be lieing to me and just spending time, texting some guy all these years!) Ha!

Paul they are legit and I am sure some that are not..
In fact most every college has some online classes.. Even the local Comunity College has some required course that are taken online..
Schools love it cause they get the cash without having to supply a room with electricity..

She is probably correct The University of Phoenix was one of the first to offer degrees online.. So they should have an upper hand over the others..
While I was deployed to Afghainstan last year, I took a couple of online classes through Maryuland University. Being in the military with frequent deployments, online schools are the easiest way to get that degree!
I just finished my bachelor's degree online through Strayer University. It was convenient for me. I just did not have time to get to any classes, as I was driving so far to work each day. The courses are challenging, engaging and everything is open book. When an employer asks about your education, they do not ask if you attended an online school (at least, they haven't asked me yet).
I'm currently working on my Networking degree and just finished a semester of nothing but online classes, 5 total.
I'm not sure if there's a standard online curriculum that schools use. For my classes it was setup much like a chat room. You could see the instructor on their web cam, and there was a box to put in text comments if you didn't have a microphone. We'd have a class discussion for a hour or so, then they'd give us our assignment. Most assignments were nothing more then typing something in Microsoft word and then emailing it to the instructor when finished.
If your seriously considering online courses my best advice would be to seek out local community colleges and see what courses they offer. There is nothing wrong with taking classes from a online only school, but if you do it through a local school then there's always someone locally you can talk to in person if your having any trouble. Instead of emailing back and forth with a instructor that lives a thousand miles away I've always prefered being able to talk to them in person to hammer out any problems that might arise.

Let me say welcome to the site! Where in Ky are you from? I hope things go well in Afghanistan for you.
My school has a choice of the way you can do the online instruction: synchronous- you get online at a designated time and listen to the lecture (as in post #10, or asynchronous, where you look at the assignment on Monday and have all week to do the reading, writing and homework, as well as an online discussion (much like FTE, but the instructor starts the thread with the class, based on a study topic). My job prevented me from getting online at the designated time, so my only real option was to do the asynchronous classes. Strayer also has several local campuses (campii??) to take some classes live. It was pretty exensive, though. They had a deal for active duty military that paid all my tuition that my GI Bill didn't cover, all I paid for was books. As a matter of fact, when I took my very first class, they had a deal that paid my registration fee, and then gave me a $50 book voucher. The book cost me $55 (after the voucher) and when I finished the course, sold the book back for $50. That class cost me a total of $5!!
There are other online schools that are cheaper, I'm sure, but I got a decent education from Strayer and it cost me very little.
