the wipers dont work on my 92 and im not sure why.i put a new wiper motor on but that didnt do it and it clicks under the dash now when i turn them on
any thoughts?
Try checking fuse # 16 in the fuse panel inside the cab-no corrosion, and it needs to be 30 amp..and there are 2 relays in the power dist. box under the hood-one is pos.# GG, and the other is # JJ, again check for corrosion in the panel-hard to check these relays-could buy new to make sure!! Also, a lot of wiper motors ARE self grounding, so you have to make sure that the motor mounting bolts and the area where they make contact with the body is rust free-had this happen on an old Dodge van-drove me nuts till it happened one day driving in the rain and they stopped AGAIN-so I opened the hood and I wiggled the connections and the motor wiggled with it and I thought I heard an "arcing" sound ,and the wipers started working..Checked it out on a dry day, and sure enough, the motor had to "ground" itself to the body to work..Cleaned up the body around and in the bolt holes, new bolts, and it always worked after that..Hope this helps.....
The wiper motor is sensitive to having a good ground. There should be a short wire from a ground stud on your fire wall that went to some point on your old motor. Make sure you have good continuity from that wire to the body before you attach it to the wiper motor. Then check it again after you attach it to the motor just to make sure nothing changed. If you don't have good continuity with the wire to body ground, you'll need to take the wire off the ground stud and make sure the stud is making good contact with the body before putting the wire back on it and then to the motor. As was mentioned in the other post, these should be self grounding, but you can't count on it. That's why both my 90 and 91 came with these short ground wires on there. If you can check the continuity with a multimeter, you'll know what you've got. Then if you still have problems, suspect the multifunction switch (wiper switch) next. The clicking you hear from under the dash is the delay timer for the wiper delay settings you can select on the switch. If it's clicking when you select the wipers to turn on, it's probably trying to work and so is the multifunction switch, but the electrical signal may not be getting through because of a bad ground on the motor. Sometimes it's possible to get a bad motor from the store too. Motor ground, delay timer, multifunction switch, motor, wiring are the successive items to check. Let us know what you find.
