Matter of fact there is an Airaid system on Ebay for $264.50 with free shipping. Don't know how that price is, but I came across it while looking for a CAI system for my 07 V-10.
I am wondering if it would be best to go CAI or just a drop in K&N filter..
I'm just hoping that by the time I'm ready to buy and start modding K&N will have an FIPK out for the 08-09. I've had them on two other vehicles and really liked the results.
Just a note - It is your truck and I INSIST you do whatever you want, but just to prevent any disappointments, I would recommend doing some searching before investing.
I have no idea if the '08 will be different (I doubt it), but past years of V10 showed negligible, if any, improvements in performance with just a CAI. The stock intake has been proven to be darned good. Air temps inside are virtually identical to ambient, and a clean paper provides just about as much flow with far better filtration.
About all they provided was more dirt in the engine, dirty MAF's (and resulting mpg drops), and the noise.
Some report benefits if combined with many other mods.
Shop wisely and be a happy consumer!
I will say one thing, there is a gain to be made in the mid-range on the 2-valver, albeit with headers and y-pipe, when you replace the intake tube.
I think it was a mistake for Ford (maybe intentional) to make the big diameter hose right after the air box, with a small diameter MAF leading to it, AND make a hard left turn right away.
But that's the 2-valver. I have yet to really take a look at a 3-valver.
Krewat - Can you fit a paper filter in the Volant? I agree the tube doesn't look very optimal.
Where we live (way northern CA), the soil and dust contain very high amounts of quartz and other ultra hard minerals from all the decomposing granite. This stuff wears engines something fierce. Heck, we could use our dirt for sanding media! I used K&N's in a couple other vehicles and saw signs of acclerated wear. Since I run my vehicles for 100's of K's, I won't risk it.
I agree. On my old 2 valve I saw no reason to install a CAI. It seemed like a pretty good system from the factory. But my 08 has those stupid silencer bubbles on the intake tube. That has to restrict some air flow.

Dunno... I have the "sock" that fits over the filter element for very dusty conditions, but haven't installed it yet. I don't get into too much dust.
On a 3V and I know I am one sided here, but on a 2008 V10 start with a tuner first then an intake. Even an 87-octane gas tune can liven it up a whole bunch. The gains in torque over stock are extremely good.
As a side note, we are in the middle of developing a combo tune/intake kit for the 05+ V10. A quality functional and economical matched system is what we are after.
