I wouldn't recommend changing gears unless you go at least two ratios different from what you have now. Cost will probably be $600-1000 per axle, it varies a lot. Why are you wanting to change, bigger tires, heavy towing? I just put in 4.30s and with 35" tires I honestly don't notice a huge increase in power. I'm glad I didn't go any lower, but I was expecting a little more increase in low end power.

I drove one of our work trucks to Fairbanks yesterday (its an 04' w/4.10s) it stayed in high gear in the hills. My truck shifts to 4th on most of the bigg hills and I have the 3.73s.
I pull some heavy trailers so lift kits and big tires don't work for me.
