well guys got home last night at about 12:30 and parked the truck over night, i live in pittsburgh pa soo the temp got down around zero last night and the truck sat from 12:30am to about 11:00am and i tried to start it and all i'm getting in a little bit of smoke puffing out the exhaust i mean the engine is crankin fine but slooooooooow just aint getting cant get it to fire up, coudl the problem be that i didnt plug it in?? and once i do plug it in how long does it normally take for that to start to take effect?? soo basically the truck sat for 12hrs in 0deg temps not plugged in..
You might have found out the hard way that your GPR and/or glowplugs are not up to par. Usually 2-3 hours is long enough for the block heater to heat the coolant enough to help with the starting. My truck did exactly that a couple years ago in those kinds of temps and it was my GPR.
ok it has been plugged in for an 1 1/2 hours now soo i should let it go a little bit longer??
Perhaps if you can let it sit some more, then I would do so. I assume it's still cold out. I didn't mention in my last post that I got a bit anxious and I ended up killing my batteries trying to start my truck with the dying GPR.
GPR = glow plug relay, around $50 for a decent one (don't buy one from Ford). Do a search for Stancor... tons of reading. In the cold like that, you should give the glow plugs a couple cycles before cranking. They stay on longer than the light in your dash by the way! Turn the key on, wait 90 seconds, turn key off, repeat one or two more times. Now crank it, it should fire.
EDIT- you may also want to throw a charger on the batts to help it crank over.
You also have a 2nd relay which is for your AIH ( air intake heater), that you realy don't need. You can swap your GPs to this one if you find that your GPR is shot.

Good point! Also a good opportunity to do the AIH delete if you haven't already.
Go hold a screwdriver across the 2 large posts on the GPR for 30 seconds, then try to start your truck (ignore the wait to start light). If it starts up that way, you need a new GPR.
ok guys i did hold a screwdriver across the two post for about a minute and she fire right up no smoke nothing didnt even crank more than once, i replaced it with a cole hersee brand relay, once question tho what wire onpens the relay i have to small red once that where both hott, my truck was warm when i put it on soo i know it wasnt probaly getting a signal to open but how does it work what opens it??

Not to be a pain but; I'm sorry but I need a little more punctuation. With some periods & caps that end & start new sentences. Commas don't end a sentence. I have no idea what you are saying. Not trying to be a A$$, but just want to help.
sorry i DID NOT know this was english class........anyway i put a new cole hersee relay on when the truck was already warm and did not need the glow plugs....so when i put all the wires on why were the 2 small post hott??i thought only one got hott and thats what opens it??

Okay, it's just Jason's way of asking for some legibility in the post for us to help out. Enough on that.
I posted this in your other thread - read through this, good stuff:
