I apologize if you get this too late, but I was just browsing thru the board and happened to stumble upon you. I had an 89 F150, 351w, .512 cam, Holley double pumper, and hooker super comp headers. I ran 2.25 inch pipes back to authentic cherry bombs ( not Thrush or crap like that)............It was LOUD, and I mean loud. The tone was obnoxious, as any glasspack muffler is, but it had a mean tone. The cab was quiet as can be, with no exhaust sound to bother you, and the best part about these mufflers is: I was able to keep the sound level down when taking off from a stop ( i.e. if there was a poice car behind me), but when i wanted them to be loud, I just had to gas it a little. So in conclusion, I would go for the Cherry bomb if you want the tough, mean sound of a glasspack, or go with the Flowmaster if you want a mellow, yet "performancy" tone. Both are excellent mufflers, and will hold up to anything.
I run a cherrybomb Vortex. It is a cross between the cherrybomb and the flowmaster. It has the low rumble of the flowmasters, and the high rpm flow of a cherrybomb. It is made by Maremont, it is a little hard to find, but worth it. Kind of the best of both worlds. Here is a guy that put them on his truck and is happy with them.
I bought a cherry bomb vortex muffler... Its got a little bit of tone down low but not alot, but the high-end whomp is there, it sounds great when you're runnin' 3000+ RPMs, a real mean, pissed off tone.. it'll burble and make noise when your RPMs are low but not as much as a Flowmaster... I added huge tips on the end of my pipes and it improve the burble alot, and this made me happy with it currently.. until I have the money to buy headers and bigger pipes. I'll probably go with Flowmaster then, but for now I'm happy enough with what I got to stick with it for now.
>does anyone know where to buy a cherry bomb glasspack, not
>the cherry bomb vortex muffler
Here in Wisconsin we have "Fleet Farm" stores. It's like a Wal-Mart/Menards/auto parts/implement store all in one. They have Cherry Bomb Glasspacks for about $14.00 each. I have them on my 78 F150 460/4x4 and on my 79 F150 351m. Not necessarily because they're good, but because they're cheap.
They're not as loud as I wanted, but I guess they get louder with age.
