AFAIK, you can't change the GVWR of your truck.

Hi rmsingh,
Welcome to FTE.
I'm only curious,,, why do you want to "de-rate" the GVRW?

If your trying to de-rate for licensing and or insurance reasons, there is usually a procedure your state follows for this.
In Washington state, they will license your truck for anything over the empty weight of your truck, in 2k increments. The problem occurs when your licensed close to your empty weight and you get stopped while loaded and your over your licensed weight. Over licensed weight tickets aren't cheap.
Good luck.

Actually you can but only if is registered as combination weight.
You will need the title in hand and go to your DMV.

Do you actually need a truck your size for work?
Why not get a health card and USDOT number?

you only need dot numbers if you make money with the truck.
