i thought i was the only that used that reference to others , an 8 cylinder briggs and stratton , or some variation thereof . well why we are on the subject of valve seats , whats your guy's opinion of hardened seats ? i was thinking of having it done , but if it's not neccessary i wont . 'member she's driven daily , not every once in awhile . back to work ...................

Unless you're hauling a load all the time, or running at high speeds on the freeway a lot, you don't need hardened seats. BUT you probably already have them. Have you had the heads off?

The only disadvantage to adjustables or (I'm told) the tractor lifters is they are heavier. The adjustables need to be quality parts, not some of the chinese junk that's around, and require some drilling.

i have johnson adjustables in my 59ab, been in there for 18 years, on second rebuild, and still going strong!

yeah ross they were off when i first got her home , leaking head gaskets then as , now , and a few of the retaining clips had come off , and a bent valve . yeah i'm probably gonna run adjustables as the guys at red's have suggested a schneider 254 f cam , and obviously an all new valve train , and i am planning on changing all the valves etc. to new parts just for peice of mind .
