Love the site btw....spend a ton of time here scouring the forums and I can't seem to get a narrowed down view for this particular problem.
Anyhow....I have a 96 F350 7.3 turbo crewcab with 216k on it. 6 weeks ago ran a tank dry and the fuel filter was a mess. Truck started to run rough with no power over 3rd gear and figured it was injectors. Ran that route...no such luck. Being a 96...normal code readers of course wouldn't grab it so off to the garage. Codes came back as turbo connection and back pressure. Cat is allready gutted and I really don't want to dump money into a new or used turbo. The turbo seems to be kicking and I've checked the connections....any suggestions
What do you mean by "fuel filter was a mess"? Black scum on the filter? If so you have an algae problem and need a biocide to kill the algae. And if the "fuel filter was a mess" your FPR screen is probably stopped up also. Can you post the code #, this will give us more info. A WAG is that your exhaust back pressure tube from the exhaust manifold is stopped up, but this should not make the truck run rough. Turbo connection could be the MAP sensor, bad connection, bad line to the sensor or leak. Really need more detail info.

,,,, the screen needs to be clean to remove the air from the fuel system...
I'll have to call the garage back to see if he remembers the codes....or have him plug them up one more time....gonna go do the screen now to see if it helps....the fuel filter was black...I changed it promptly after i ran the tank dry...I have run additives thru the tanks and lines to tyr to clean them out...will post a couple pics here shortly as well
I will do that Plowhand....tyvm. As for the old girl..decided it was time for an overhaul. Oil leaks...fuel leaks...worn wires. Time for some gaskets and seals and new fluids all the way around.....Let ya know how it goes....Thx all for your input!
Ty Plowhand. I will do that. As for the truck, I decided it was time for some investment in it due to the numerous leaks and worn wires etc that comes from buying 13 yr old high mileage trucks from a tree company...P-). So I now have parts and pieces in my cellar where I can work in some warmth! Gonna be gathering up seals gaskets and Orings this weekend and put it all back together. A couople of pics before i tore into it to deep...
Heh...been on the beach...in the woods...slammed into a tree or 10...They work these things pretty hard.Took awhile to vacuum off the engine and get the parts and pieces off. 2 cracked hoses...one cracked fuel line...gonna be a few days on it...on the brightside it only cost me 2k and they have another for 1.5k I may buy...
Vegitation Control Service...along the same lines as Lewis tree,Asplundh,...a bit more specialized in rugged terrian high tension right of way maintanence tho
