I would say that boxing the frame and adding more bracing to the frame to help eliminate flexing would be a start. Here are some pics of my truck when I was doing the chop, kinda gives you a look at how it would look
cn spots.... what program did you use? and see what you can do with lowering and short bed... thanks.
Photoshop 10.0.1
This is a short bed, just looks longer due to the bed being stretched into the cab. Do you want it shorter than a swb? Sectioned in front or behind the rear axle? And If I remember correctly that truck had lowering i-beams and dropped shackles so it's already lowered. You want it slammed?
After seeing the pics, eliminating the bed gap just doesn't look right. I do like the convertible idea. With some enginuity you could make it a two peice retractible top with the help of some Mercedes mechanicals. I have seen the Chevy Blazer-turned-Truck customs and they look good. It would have been cheaper to buy a El Camino.
After I shortened it it looked just like a full sized bronco. So I kept going.
Chopped 4-5 inches shortened 10-12 inches in front of rear axle, partially shaved and lowered about 8-10 inches from stock.
Now it kinda looks like an F-100 Nomad.

i dont think that doesnt look to bad....doing the same thing with a crew cab could make a excursion looking truck......i have always wanted a 70s vertion of a excursion kinda like the old suburbans...
also on the convertable idea just watch the moive "The Road Warrior" with Mel Gibson made in 1981...there is an orange bump with the roof off and a short wind screen...
I always had plans (dreams?) of making a removable hard top with frameless glass for the side windows. I wanted to make a mount in the bed (under the tonneau) for the roof so it could be along for that rainstorm. I didn't figure a way around the fact that it would be too heavy for one person.
Then I got a ragtop 5.0 so my hair can blow....guess that satisfied my itch a bit.
I went to the folks house today to move some trucks around. The weather was lousy. We did not really get to do much. I will try to see if My dad can get a couple of pics this week. I will be going back on sunday to try again.
international scout anyone. or a jeep scrambler, both pretty close
there is actually an early 90s dodge dakota running around town that someone made a convertable. They left the doors but cut the roof from the top of the windshield back, and made a small cloth convertable top. Ive never seen it with the top off though.

I knew a guy that had one of those Dakota's. He took the top off one fall day, 4 hours later he didn't have it back on. LMAO!!!
