which transmission fluid
Hi there,
can anyone tell me the correct auto transmission fluid to use on a 2002 F350 4X4 dually. I know its is mercon, but as I live in the United Kingdom we dont have a brand called Mercon. If possable could someone tell me the SAE spec of the correct auto transmission fluid. also the correct spec for the transfer box.
I would also like to take the time to thank everyone for there help they have gave me in the past when I have posted problems.

Mercon isn't a brand like Gulf or Amsoil, its a standard. Different people may manufacture it, but it has to conform to certain standards to be labeled "Mercon" and there are other incompatible standards, such as Dexron, Type F, ATF+4, etc.
Have you checked with your Ford dealer? Ford/Mazda dealers should carry it if your local parts house doesn't. I know Gulf makes and markets Mercon in other parts of Europe, though, so I'd be surprised if it wasn't in the UK.

Come on over to the dark side!!! LOL!!! Actually, the 7.3 PSD forum is where you really want to be lurking for questions like this. The 4R100 behind the diesel is different from the one behind the gasser engines.

What auto parts stores do you have in the U.K.? If you can tell us that, we might be able to poke around their website and give you a recommendation.
Also, how many miles are on the tranny? Ever rebuilt? Any upgrades to the tranny, like an improved valve body, etc.? Thanks mate! Cheers!

You can use any fluid compatible with Mercon or Mercon V. Ford issued a TSB last year that stated any transmission requiring Mercon can now be serviced with Mercon V, and that they would be discontinuing the Mercon fluid in favor of Mercon V.
You will find many brands of fluid at your local auto parts store that say they meet the Mercon or Mercon V standard. Any of those will work fine.
