Hey guys, another for you: When I start up my truck cold/warm weather I get a ticking kind of fluttering sound on the passenger side of my truck from the engine area (possibly my exhaust manifold). If I drive it when its not warmed up, it sounds the same a little worse, once its been on for 2-5 min it will fade away...I made a video with some audio to help diagnose my issue.
please make sure to have audio low, turn it up if you need too.
the sound is around 9 seconds into the video.
Sounds like you have the 5.4? If so it's most likely the exhaust manifold. Some problems people have is broken studs, or the manifold is warped and when the motor is heated up the metal expands to fill the gap and the noise goes away.
Sounds like the manifold leaking to me, look at the studs that hold the manifold on and see if any are missing (broken off). I had one side of mine done and now the other side needs all the studs replaced--the ticking on mine continues after warm up--driving me nuts. Anyhow its a common thing on the Superdutys.
Yeah its the 5.4 V8, that's what I suspected. It will be hard to get at though - do you guys know of any write ups on studs/manifold replacement?
Also do you think this could effect my driving performace?
If you let the truck sit a day or two and statr it up dose it make the noise right away? Mine makes a similar noise on the passenger side, but dose not do it on a cold statr up only if you drive then statrt it up again later, when I bought it, the truck had sat for a day ot two the guy said and sounded great for a cold start up so I bought it and figured out why he let it sit a long time before anyone test drove it.
It will make the sound aslong as the exhaust has cooled down.I'm just curious if this is the reason why I have been experiencing "not so good" performance while driving.
