My dad recently got rear ended and the trailer hitch and rear bumper got messed up. We have already gotten a new bumper but are looking for a new hitch. He does not wanna go back to the factory one as they are just too expensive. Do you guys have a suggestion/ brand of a new one? Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: Oh ya, the truck is a 2005 Lariat with the 5.4, though it probably does not matter
If he got rear-ended, I would assume the damage to his truck is the liability of the person who hit him. Go with the factory hitch; even if it is expensive it is worth every $ of the price. And, since it is an insurance claim, he should have the truck repaired back to the same condition it was when it was hit.
Ya well he would but it was in mexico and he has to cover all of the costs. that mexican insurance that you buy at the boarder does not cover anything!!! We have had the truck looked at by Ford, and all is fine just need a new hitch.
Here is what i have found out with trailer hitches. I have a class 3-factory hitch on my truck witch i have bent. Slighty.. But it bothers me... So i looked on line and i wanted a class 4. I found one i tell the guy that my truck has a factory hitch on it. Will the new hitch work. He says yes... So i order it. And sure enough it's wrong.... I tell him he dose not belive me. So he looks it up again and it says right on there web site will not work on a truck with a factory hitch. So with that being said. If you want another hitch and you do not pull alot of heavy weight get the ford factory hitch.
Hey Guys,
thanks for all of the help, i will be passing this information to my dad. He is out of the country til summer so i guess he will be waiting til then. As always I appreciate the help! Thanks,
