A stuck or faulty prop valve will illuminate the brake light.
Pressure problems or air in the system can also create this situation.

Possible faulty wiring? Would be the last thing I looked at. I would look at what 75F350 said but checking the brake light wiring circuit is cheap, and with the proper wiring schematic should be quick.

C8AZ2B264A .. Plastic "Low Brake Fluid Warning Light Switch" screws into the brake proportioning valve.

What happens to it: Cracks develop in the threads, and when that occurs, brake fluid seeps out, the low brake fluid warning light on the dash comes on...and stays on!

This switch fits ALL 1968/79 F100/350's, 1968/72 passenger cars, 1968/79 Bronco's and 1969/79 Econolines.

While it's available from Ford, every autoparts store should carry it.

You live in Bloomington, IL correct?

According to the Ford Dealer Parts Locator System, DENNISON FORD in Bloomington IL has one.

It would if the the leak was big enough, but if it is slow leak you would not notice it right away.

Bill, when these crack would the crack be big enough for it to leak? I looked under the truck and didn't see any spots on the ground. Plus it's too dam cold to lay under there right now I'm just calculating how much time I have to get it fixed. Thanks for your information, I'll be picking it up in a couple of days.

I just want to make sure I don't loose my brakes going down the highway.

Replace that puppy!

All it takes for this switch to go bad is tiny cracks in the threads.

The fluid then seeps out, the low brake fluid warning light on the dash comes on, and stays on.

I prolly sold at least 500 of these same switches over the course of 29 years (1968/97).

MSRP: $33.64 / FTEpartsguy.com price: $18.17

What I was getting at, is that the function of the valve itself could be a problem. This light is designed to illuminate when there is a low pressure situation, and this can happen if one of the circuits gets low. The plunger will move to the low side and illuminate the dash light. You can make a tool for this, or it can be done with a set of picks.
Perhaps the switch is bad, and hopefully this is the case, as this would be the easiest fix. I did not read that there was a leak, and often times if the switch is busted, it will leak, though not all of the time.
This is about a 50 /50 deal. It could be the switch itself, and it could be the plunger. Either way, you are on the right track, and should be able to narrow this down.

Any type of leak in the brake system can cause that light to come on. And it don't take much.

Another culprit that can cause this is leaky wheel Cylinders on the rear of the truck.

Would not hurt to do a full brake inspection after replacing the switch.

Remove the Rear wheels, then remove the brake drums and check the wheel cylinders for leaks. then you can check the shoes etc...

Good Luck.
