I just had mine replaced in june. Just picked up another crack in the upper right. It's small right now but if it grows i will wait till this june (inspection) to replace again. Arggg
chalk it up to newengland winters on the highway.
Ive got a bug deflector and I've gotten 2 chips in the past 3-6 months, both about the size of a dime, and haven't turned to cracks... yet. +1 on New England highways.
Pretty simple as already mentioned to at least lower the odds of taking a hit. But chances are we're all going to get a new windshield sooner or later no matter how hard we try to avoid it.
- Keep a good distance from the vihicles infront of you at highway speeds including vehicles in other lanes heading the same direction as you.
- Take the right lane when ever you can on the highway to avoid debri that might be spit over from on coming traffic.
- Keep even farther back than normal from any type of Truck or trailer hauling gravel of any kind.
Obviously I don't follow these general rules too well myself. The last two windshields I had replaced on my '01 Montana only took less then ONE WEEK each to take a hit after having new ones installed. I've been pretty lucky with the Truck so far. Not even a minor chip on it that I've noticed yet and I do about 50/50 highway/city driving with it. I do have a deflector/bug shield on it, but I'm really not convinced that the deflector is helping. I'm pretty sure it's the height of the Truck that has kept it ding free so far. But who know,,, it might be helping?
My last SD was in need of a windshield when I sold it. My 03 could use one now as well. I am still debating putting one in from an 04 with the supeduty on the top middle.
Rick you should come a pay a visit to the nice folks in the BC Chapter.

Hi Zip,,,
I stop by there once in awhile to see what's up. I was going to join in at one point, but I am spreading myself a little too thin as it is. If I see something that I can offer help with (contribute to) I will no doubt jump in.
Still running my original windshield (almost 9 years). I had to scrape off the factory truck plant stickers a few years ago, they faded and you couldn't read them anymore.

My two previous cars (Chrysler 300 and Toyota Supra) were very low to the ground and I never had a single chip/crack in 5 years on either. I've had the Super Duty for 4 months with a bug deflector and 2 chips already. Maybe it's the pitch of the windshield, my lower cars have more angled windshields, where the truck's is much steeper taking most of the impact rather than bouncing it off.

My 03's got the Super Duty on the top. Has yours been replaced before?
I have a 1" crack on my windshield from spraying down my truck with water on a really hot August day... I didn't even notice the crack until after I finished washing the truck and started cleaning the windows.
How effective is the repair method like the one offered by Safelite Auto Glass?

Nope. I am pretty sure it came out on the 04's. None of the local windshield places in my area list it for the 03's. It will cost me about $75.00 above my deductable to put one in.
