Want to beat the V8!!!
#226
If I was lookin' to build a racing 300 I6, and I had the time and the money, I would look at doin' these mods:
- Lighter, stronger, forged alloy internals
- Ported big flow head
- Some serious cams
- Big free flowing exhaust
- A hell of a lot of boost (NOS, Turbo, Blower)
A lot of people I've talked to say that a really big free spinning turbo should work. Personally I'd like to try a really big twin screw (Whipple) superhcarger rigged to a custom Wilson sheetmetal intake manifold. Can't make up my mind on whether I'd want carbs or fuel injection though. The big trick here is just getting this beast to move a ton of air faster than the other guy. I bet you could pull of at least 7000 rpm with the right internals...
Anyway, it's nice to dream, but right now my '79 F100 with the 300 needs a new clutch.

Just because YOU think your 300 can get off the line faster than my 302 doesn't mean that's how it will go down. Number one, I have something called a clutch. I rev it up, and let out on the clutch. I can get off the line just fine. I don't CARE about how fast a truck is, it doesn't matter that much, but you guys with your 300's saying it can get off the line faster is making me laugh. Sure, in a 2nd gear roll from 5 mph, I'd say the 300 will start to pull away first. Happy? Again, I have a manual transmission. It can get off the line 'just as fast'... or faster than a 300.
Now you are trying to compare building up a 300 using it's low end torque and extending its RPM power band. Are we talking apples to oranges here? I can say 'Stroke the 302 for a 347' and bam, watch the low end torque jump up.
Watching both trucks run down the 1/4 mile would be painstakingly unbearable, so I don't really give a ****.

All I can say is brackets ![Evil Grin](images/smilies2/evilgrin0007.gif)
I dont care if you have a 2000 HP motor I can and most likely will beat you in a bracket race.
I have done that with a 16 sec street car to 10 race cars, they were not happy, but I went on to the next round and that is all it takes to win races.
Besides bracket racing is a drivers race not a money race (who has the most money to put into a motor or car).
And dont get me started on electronic delay boxes. If you cant drive the number stay home!
