I had my truck on a lift last week (changin u-joints) and I was looking at my exhaust piping and I noticed that the pipe going into the second catalytic converter was more of a oval shape rather than a round pipe... has anyone ever cut the cat off and put something on that oval pipe without welding?? I want to get rid of that cat for more power and sound... anybody????
It's like that because of the crappy job ford did to bend the pipe around the crossmember. I just removed that cat about 4 hours ago, I took a sawsall and cut it out where the pipe is round, and replaced it with 3" pipe into my flowmaster muffler.
Primary rig is Green Thunder:
95' F-150 XLT 4x4, 302, 5 spd, MSD 6A, Flowmaster Exhaust, Sunroof, Clear corners w/ Diamond headlights, CD player with 2 10" subs and some 32" BFG Muds .
Thats it for now, saving for a stang. Check out my Gallery for a look-see.
Thanks... Changing my oil on the lift tomorrow-- Will take a look and most likely get rid of that cat while its easier to get at...
Mustang-- How's yer Flowmaster system sound now without that second cat???

Sounds nice but my pipe is leaking, I've gotta weld up the pipe. The muffler is only a 50 series, so a lot of the noise is outside of the truck, not inside. It also crackles or pops when you slow down (small backfires) because of the leak, and the cat also helps to reduce that. On the way in the mail is a 40 series and a new catco high-flow cat ($150 for the two). I live in MA, I need the cat, so I am putting a high-flow on there. It'll help get rid of the popping and crackling from the small backfires. The 40 series will increase my interior resonance, so by putting the cat and muffler on, i will make it louder for me in the drivers seat, and get rid of the backfires. I started it up after i cut the cat off, so it was only running with that first cat on there and man it was loud, but still not anything crazy. If you run a 50 series and no cats, it's loud outside but not all that loud inside. Run a 40 series like I am going to run, and it'll be SWEEEEEET.
