Hello everyone, Well i'm a Newbie to the site but am looking for some help. I Have a 2004 Ford F350 Dulley / 6.0 liter / 85,000 miles / Completely Stock. Well My problem is that a month in half ago i my turbo blew. we took it off and the back shaft was not only bent but it also broke and the fin Blades broke off. I had the Turbo Rebuilt and Saturday the Turbo blew out again. i took it off last night and almost the same problem. Back Shaft Bent and 1 Blade Broke off. I brought it back to the Turbo Shop and they took it apart and say they don't undersatnd why that happened. And they said they have never seen this happen twice before on a turbo. This Truck is an everyday work truck. The Truck is stock and i have never drove it like i stole it. I don't have a lead foot. Because i didn't want things like this to happen to an everyday work truck. I bought the truck used back in June of 08'. From Ford who said they checked everything out before they sold it to me. Well hopefully i explaned everything and hopefully someone can help me out to explain why the turbo keeps having this problem.
Mike, Welcome to FTE. You need to find out why the turbo is crapping out on you. There are reasons that major parts like the turbo is going out, 2 of them for sure. I don't have the 6.0, but I hope someone can help you on here.
This Truck is an everyday work truck. The Truck is stock and i have never drove it like i stole it.
Well first off define "work" truck? Does it just mean that it's your business truck or does it actually see heavy loads either hitched up to it or in the bed?
You also need to drive it at times like you stole it especially if it's stock with the egr system intact.
Does it see alot of idle time? If so that's another good reason to drive the truck occasionally like you stole it.
Now I'm not talking about starting it up and then go whaling on the the go pedal, but after it gets up to operating temp(wait til the stock gauge is at the normal operating temp and wait an additional ten minutes as the stock gauge is a little quick on that; the colder it is wait a little bit longer), then have a little fun every now and then. It will be better for the turbo.
I have an 03 6.0 and I am on my 3rd turbo. The last one that crapped out did the same thing you are describing. Totally broke the shaft and a bunch of blades broke. The replacement one seems to be a really good one. Hope they find out what is causing this.
got oil pressure to turbo or waste turbo oil blockage? i cant think of anoher reason why it would happen twice.
Just got the turbo back from the turbo shop. i told the mechanic what you said and he's going to check the turbo lines in the morning to see if they are clogged before he puts the turbo back on!!
85,000 miles should the turbo still be covered under the 100,000 mile engine warranty?
Unfortunately the way my like is, is that when i the 1st turbo blew up. i thought it was covered under warranty to until i went to the dealer and they pulled my oasis report. And the report said that even though the truck was a 2004 it was built on Nov. 13th 2003. So i was 3 weeks out of warranty. and they wouldn't comp. me or help me out in any way. They said that if i was a Regular customer who did all the maintance on the truck from when it was orginally purchased that they maybe could have helped me out. But i bought the truck used in June of 2008 and didn't have any records of the previous owners maintance history.
warranty starts when purchased by first owner. Never build date.
Dealer has lead you down the garden path but good.
Can you document what you were told?
Wuzup D.
They told me that the warranty starts the day of the warranty date on the oasis report which is 11/12/2003 and the Build Date was 11/11/2003 which the warranty started a day after it was built. according to the dealer and the report. So i don't know what to do now.
Was the turbo replaced under the warranty the first time?
No my warranty was expired already when the turbo went bad. they wanted $1,100 dollars plus 2 hrs labor at $105. an hour. So i had to go another route and had the turbo rebuilt.
