i bought a set from whitney. headers back. pipes exited in front of the wheels. didnot like the sound so i had tailpipes bent with 3 inch cans. 21/2 pipes and the inside of the glasspack is also 2 1/2. has a great sound now. will go old school with smithies on the 38.
i think i keep the rear exits id like my neighbors not to completley hate me
My highboy is the first truck I've had with rear exit exhaust and I don't like it. It sounds good for sure but I get seriously gassed back there when I'm hooking up a trailer. I smell it on me for a half hour, and believe me I try to avoid it.
I'm switching to side exits as soon as possible, but, I also have to move the exhaust to put a rear mounted gas tank in it.
o ya and do you know of any premade systems i can by that go over the axle then straight out to the side instead of angling towards the corner of the bed? i could fab one to work but it would just save me money to buy one already done and ready to bolt on if it helps any my engine is a 400 cid
One Caveat on side exit exhaust, be sure the tail pipe section is angle down and/or far enough away from the from the bed sheet metal. That exhuast will cause the sheetmetal to deteriorate really quickly. That is what killed my pops '72 from the wheel well back just ate a huge cancer spot in the sheetmetal.
