my 302 has low oil press acording to my stock guage and i know its not real accurate but the engine will start knocking if its in drive and the rpms drop when i stop i had a z-71 with that problem and my local shade tree mechanic showed me how to put a couple washers behind the spring on the oil pump to increase the pressure can you do this with my engine and if so how is it done i watched the guy do it but it was like 4 years ago and i dont really remember how it was on a chevy too
im not sure how many miles are on it im guessing about 200,000 what bearings are you talking about the guage is staying just barely above the "L" mark but if i give it a little gas the guage rises and motor runs fine
The main and rod bearings. If they have a lot of wear, you will not have very good oil pressure.
I am assuming you have not had this truck very long. I would get another oil pressure guage and see what pressure you actually have. I would also drive it awhile and see how much oil it uses. Get a general idea of what condition the engine is in. There is no use putting a oil pump or main/rod bearings in an engine that is worn out and uses a lot of oil. Get a feel for what how the engine is, and then make the decision to go in and perform surgery, or take the whole thing out and get another engine or rebuild it.
yea ive only had the truck about a month and still havent droe it a whole lot just around the house for a couple miles at a time cause i dont have insurance on it yet...by the way anyone know where to get some really cheap insurance i checked on prices and they want 600.00 for 6 mths on a truck i paid 500.00 for and i have a perfect driving record just seems a little ridiculus
Find a local independent agent that handles several companies. That's where you'll find your best prices. It also depends on the are you're in and how many idiot there are on the road. When I moved from the columbus/marion ohio are to the fremont/toledo/sandusky area my insurance when up about 60 bucks. I moved into a higher liability area. People in northwestern ohio can't drive I swear....
i drove the truck for about an hour last night and this is what i found out
1) when driving and accelerating the truck does fine but kinda boggs down when under a load i think this is because there are no vacume lines hardly at all
2) when coasting or sitting idle in drive for a while there is a loud clunk but stops when i give it gas sounds like the drive shaft hitting something or the trans..i cant crawl under there and look while its in drive though
anyone got any advice on this or is there something else i need to try or look at

Check out Geico. My 86 F-150 4x4 XLT Lariat is $65 a month with SR-22 (Yeah, I have a DUI). I'm 23 and married. Dunno how much that affects it.

That sounds like rod knock. Considering you have low oil pressure and now you are hearing a knocking at idle, and loss of power under load, it points even more to your bearings. Not a for sure answer, of course, as there's only so much you can diagnose on the net.
yeah i'm think'n u need to go thru her and give her some new bearings and rings... but just a little FYI...when my gauge still worked it would drop pressure significantly when she was about a quart low, if i ignored her subtle request she wud eventualy start to bog down and overheat as if completely outa water...this meant she was 2, sometimes 3 quarts low, give her some juice and she ran like a champ again and i mean instantly!
I hate to say it, but it sounds like the guy you bought it from saw the writing on the wall and got rid of it. No problem though. You could stick a good used engine in there with little trouble, or if you go slow, you could rebuild the one you have.
well i went and bought some 20w-50 and a fram tough guard filter (i had a buddy tell me it would help keep more oil in the motor when not running) last night hopefully that will help a lil bit and hold me out until tax time im planing on getting quite a bit done then ...this is the first year ive got to claim anyone since my wife aint workin a wife and kid comes in handy sometimes..haha

I was going to suggest trying 20w50 oil in her and see what happens but I would have used a motorcraft filter,I have been running this in my 86 150 for 11 years now due to lower end noise on start up and it was leaking some, after it was warm the pressure would drop, now the pressure stays in the upper range of my gauge no matter the rpm range or how warm the engine gets,190,000 miles and it dosen't burn any oil, leaks yes burn no
