[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-Oct-02 AT 12:05 PM (EST)]I`ve been looking in summit magazine and noticed the "H" pipes. What purpose do these have on the exhaust system? Is it for the performance or the sound? Also I was wondering if I could have the exhaust shop that does my work, just cut some holes inside my pipes and weld me a cross piece in between? Would that work? It would be a whole lot cheaper I think. Is it worth doing all of this? Let me know what you think.

Well, when you have a true dual exhaust, you've got your two pipes side by side righ? The H pipe connects the two, and evens out the exhaust pressure between the pipes. Basically, it speeds up the flow of exhaust through the pipes. Also, Instead of sounding like two four cylinder engines, it sounds like one eight cylinder.
OH , ok . So it looks like I may try some fabrication myself. Right now I`ve got straights. I may try it before I get my new exhaust put on and see what kind of difference it makes. Thanx for the input!

FWIW:
it does matter where you put the crossover pipe. It's not as simple as just picking a spot and cutting/welding.
I seem to remeber a post some time back about locating the crossover pipe.
Quick way: paint the exhaust. Run your truck. Look for where the paint blisters. That's where to locate the crossover pipe.
