no horn

hello ..my name is rick..i am new to this site and i have one question ...i have a 1977 f 150 ranger xlt 4x4 351 mortified ..yes...mortified and c6 ..with factory air and i have added interval wipers ...my problem is a few day before i went to get my truck inspected i was going over my truck and found out that my horn didnt work ...well a few hours later and having the sterring wheel off looking to find out why my horn didnt work ,,i jumpred the rag joint from the sterring wheel side to the box side and the horn blow's..take the jumper off....no horn ..i could live with the jumper wire but only after a few miles the wire breakes and i must jumper it back again ..i was just wondering if anyone know's what collor wire is the ground wire in the steering colum for the horn ....looking threw the forums here i didnt come across any one else having this problem ...and going to many junk yards in my area looking at other trucks i have only seen one other truck with a jumper wire around the rag joint ....thanks guys for your help...rick

I have heard originally some trucks had a rubbing block down in the column that grounded the shaft. I am not sure about your year.

Why doesn't the jumper wire work? Why does it break? That sounds a little scary, since the rag joint should not have that much play were it would break the wire.

thanks dave..i will look for that rubbing block in my column....i guess the reason why the jumper wire breakes is just from driving vibration ...there is no play at the rag joint ....
