Turbo-tax

Has anyone here used Turbo-tax? I'm thinking about buying it. I can't afford a good accountant. Last year I used Accutax. I was not at all happy with them. The woman there didn't seem to know too much about filing taxes. I have paid to have my taxes done 3 times. All 3 times I filled out a 1040 myself online to compare and I got the same refund. So I don't know why I paid someone else to do it for me.

My wife and I (acutally, my wife) has been using Turbo-Tax Deluxe for many years.

We've had NO problems with it.

I've been using TT for at least 10 years. And a few years of Tax Cut before that. I like the product for the most part. They are published by the same company as Quicken, and for the last few years they've been loading trialware on my PC and a deduction maximizer thing, none of which do I want. And they don't give me an option to not install that crap. This pisses me off, no matter what the software. But I've got this years version sitting here to be installed, so obviously I plan to use it again.

But I would say this, don't expect the publisher to give you tax advice or to step you through the program. If you need hand holding to that level, you probably won't like the software.

I've purchased it every year for the last 10 years or so. Before that I used Personal Tax Edge by Parsons Technology. TurboTax bought them out though.

TurboTax is great for most returns but in my opinion it gets a little bit tricky when you have lots of schedules to attach. It seemed to have a little trouble with the numbers from the K-1 form I used to get from the accountant that did the taxes for the LLC I was involved with. Otherwise TurboTax did great with all the various incomes I have as well as business expenses, investment related income and expenses as well as my home business. I'd recommend it unless you have a really complicated return.

I also use it to prepare and file for a bunch of my family. I use it for myself to get a rough idea how much I owe and then wait until the second week of April and have my attorney prepare the actual return. He finds a lot more deductions than I can myself.

I've used Turbo Tax basic for years, and always had good luck. Used an accountant last year, I'm fairly certain we won't again. Lot of money spent for the same results.

I agree.....i deduct certain things for military travel as "unreimbursed employee expenses" or something like that.....TurboTax didn't pick up that i needed to do that but H&R block did. HRB charged an arm and a leg. used a "tax attorney" last year....$95 to do federal and state, along with the schedules and electronic filing. for an attorney to sign it, you can't beat it.

I have used Turbo Tax before, also HR Block as well with good results. I however was turned on to TaxAct last year and loved it, super easy to use and free online. I will be going back with them.

Tried it one year and went back to doing my own. Worked ok, but I didn't like the way it worked. Asked me questions and then presented me with a filled out form. (Someone told me that you could see the form as you went along, but that was after I was done with it).

Also, whenever wanted to change something some steps back, it ran me through the other steps all over again.

It also insisted on getting updated after I had been using it for a couple of weeks.

Possibly it's just me. I enter the 1040 formulas into Excel on a line by line basis. Then I can see what happens when I pick different options. I set it up with one sheet for all my data, and make other sheets for state/fed/schedules etc.

I used TT for a couple of year and then tried Tax Act for the last few years. Between the two I like Tax Act better, but I also suppose that it just might be personal pfreference or what kind of deductions you need to use.

I've used TaxAct the last several years, but it also helps that I have pretty simple taxes (young, single, no kids).

One thing I have liked about TaxAct- although they charge me $12 to print my state taxes, they have also shown a refund on my state taxes a few times when other free state tax services showed that I got nothing back or even owed money

Just took the plunge.....TurboTax Home & Office.....Downloaded pretty easily....although I had to also download Mozilla FireFox for the software to work......Just got the account up and running, and I'll finish when the W-2s and 10-99s come in.......

Had a tax man (husband/wife team) for years. The business got too big, so I'm cutting my ties and trying this out (my dad has praised TurboTax for years). For an example, the tax guy used to operate out of a detached office at his home.....When I first went to him, I was ushered into his living room, and his wife brought out a coffee set, and we all sat down for about 30 minutes and went over EVERYTHING.....This was in 2000, and i was impressed.

Over the years, they relocated.....went commercial.....hired a bunch of people and got as many clients as possible. Now it's to the point where I pick a number on my 'tax day'....and wait for one of the drones. Last year, I was interviewed for about 4 or 5 minutes and shown the door. I never see the owners anymore.

Wasn't impressed with the service AND the result.

Now I'll try TurboTax and see what happens.
