I just purchased a 1999 F-250 7.3 w/ 178,000 mi. A light on the dash came on saying Service Engine Soon. Can you tell me what needs to be serviced and is something a novice can do himself. Also does anyone know of a good shop in the Fresno, Ca. area. thanks for your help.
Actually it just came on when I started the truck in the morning. I did notice that the day before, the truck died twice driving to work. I don't know if the two are related or not. It hasn't died for 3 days. Thanks.
How's the truck running? If you have a light, the you have a hard code stored and you need to have the codes read. Anything else will be hunt and search.
Welcome to FTE! It sounds like you might have CPS issue but you need to run your codes first as mentioned. Just bring us the code number and we can look it up!
Welcome to FTE. Call your local Ford dealer and give them your VIN number. Ask them if the CPS recall has been done on your truck. If not, take it in and get it swapped out for free (just ask nicely to hang on to the old one).
Thanks for all the advice. I'll find out the code and see if the recall has been done and let you know.
Even if the recall has been done, buy another and change it out. They are around $25.00. If that is not the problem, you have a spare to keep in the glove box.
