Our SoCal Dogs
These 6 puppies were abandoned out of the middle of the road on Saturday. PLEASE help me find them homes - otherwise, it's Animal Control - which means they only have 5 days. We've bathed them, sprayed them for fleas and wormed them....but we can't keep them. They are currently in a kennel in my basement since Idon't have a fence.
I've lost count of the number of rescue groups that I've contacted, only to be turned down due to no room.
Please check with every dog person you know to see if they need a puppy"

I knew he was bulking up and we were gonna have to cut back on the chow. But I was thinking about 80#. Doc says he needs to be 95-100, but no more than 100#.
He is NOT going to like this.

Of the current crop, one female weighs 85 lbs. the other females/males are 60-80 lbs.
Basset Hounds are large dogs on short legs, and have the largest bone mass of any dog.
Only problem is, they cannot get into even so much as a low slung sedan without a boost up...another reason why my back is bad.
Call a Lab Rescue group. They sometimes have pups, but not often and they go fast. This is a better option if you were willing to consider a pup 9 months or older. It's worth some phone calls regardless, and maybe they would put you on a waiting list.
Personally, I've had very good luck with my last 3 dogs by buying from family breeders. But you have to be careful. I only bought from families where I could go and see both parents, and the household where they lived. That way I could judge the temperment of the parents, as well as evaluate the family environment. I just watched the Pennysaver for litters available, and then tried to keep my excitement in check, because they are all sooooo cute!
In case you don't know, Black, Yellow, Chocolate, and White Labs can all be in the same litter. It is only a color difference. Black is the most common, and least expensive, followed by the other colors in the order above. Other than your personal preference, color means nothing.
But some breeders will try to inter-breed Chocolates to maximize Chocolate puppies, and the health of the dogs and the entire species is harmed by that practice. So if you see a litter of all Chocolates, ask a lot of questions. It might just be luck, or it might be bad breeding practices.
Have fun.
Thanks for the info Bill. I had no idea they would such a thing just get chocolate pups.
I am going to have a talk with the family and see if a rescue is something to consider. I for one don't mind as long as the temperament is ok. But thanks for the tips.
