Again the case is made that if the word OBAMA is mentioned a quick negative comment will follow. Whoever yanked my discussion of the economic system in EQUADOR will I hope take notice and be fair.
My personal opinion is that I don't think there should BE a national championship team at all. So much of it is based on ratings as opposed to head-to-head play.
Florida is the supposed national champ this year. Fine. But what about Utah who was undefeated? What about Mississippi who, if memory serves, beat the national champs.
I'm with Steve on this one. I don't think collges should be farm systems for the NFL.
I don't think the government has a right to even express an opinion. Obama is not yet the President, but as President Elect he should keep his opinions on such things private.

So the president is not allowed to have an opinion? He made the statment during an interview done during a football game. Was he supposed to talk about his latest stimulation package?
As far as a playoff system, how many of the coaches want a playoff? I think the system got it right this year. I was hoping that Alabama would go all the way, but Florida outlasted them (in a pretty darn good game). Utah as #1? I don't think so. Yes, they showed the Crimson Tide a thing or two about underestimating your opponent, but their schedule does not allow for them to be a serious contender for the title:

But if you beat the best, maybe you are the best. Yeah, Utah had an "easy" schedule but they still beat Alabama even though some would argue that the Tide beat themselves.
What about Mississippi? Am I wrong about them being possibly the best as well?
So the president is not allowed to have an opinion? He made the statment during an interview done during a football game.
Of course he should have an opinion. A private opinion under the circumstances. What circumstances? Circumstances where every word he utters is scrutinized and given undue import. Every newspaper published his opinion, and not only in the sports section. Undue import such as this entire thread. Q: Why the heck should his opinion matter? A: Because it bears the weight of government influence. He should have just stated his favored team and left it at that.

Alabama beat Mississppi. Guess the Tide are the best after all... Any team can have an off day (just ask Nick Saban).
A true playoff system would probably shut most people up, but there will always be those who say "my team is still better, they just had an off day."
Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing a playoff system of some sort. UTC Footballs idea sounds pretty good, but no matter what people will always think their team got shafted.

And I don't think there is anything wrong with there being no "National Championship" team. Too many variables, not enough head to head play and the most impotant thing is that it shouldn't matter who is the "#1" team. Granted, many of the players would never make it to the big colleges if it weren't for their football skills but football (and other sports too) should remain secondary to why they are there.
