Dual Alternator Setup on '95 E350
here is a shot or two. i could have the main bracket cut locally on a waterjet cutter, the vertical bracket bolting to the waterpump and both alternators could be waterjet cut as well, but needs a pass with an endmill to account for the offset in mounting faces.
in the fuzzy first picture, you can sorta see there is a brace running from the upper alt factory bracket to the second alt pivot bolt, it has two tabs welded to it. these tabs go to the threaded boss on the back case of each alt. the pix don't show it, but i have added a heim jointed brace (tube) from this brace back to the intake manifold - i used two of the manifold bolts for the rear eng bracket so as to spread the load. prob wasn't ness as the previously dmentioned bracket tied the two alt's together and then tied them to the block. any "pull" on the front of the alt's will be resisted by this bracket. but being the type that has seen too many brackets die from vibration when one least expected it, i added the second brace...
the eccentric tensioner is an old benz part that i turned down to get the right height. the adj bolt on the original alt was then drilled out for a 10mm bolt to pass thru and clamp the eccentric. the pulley came from napa and is for a ford. belt got a little longer.
only real issue is the water hose from the pump to the hardline. solution was to track down a 90deg fitting instead of the straight fitting which hit the upper alt.
in retrospect, i would cut a slot for the tensioner pulley and use a bolt/jam nut setup to either push or pull the pulley/bolt to set tension. waterjet cutter could do that no problem.
apologies for the giant pix. somewhat impaired today and didn't resize them
