General injector question

Hi all,
I understand that powerstroke injectors fire because they are actuated by high pressure oil from the HPOP. What I don't know is if this is how our work, how do others work, like Cummins, Duralax or really any other DI diesel. How are the fuel injectors timed and actuated if not with high pressure oil?
Thanks

Subscribing & a bump. I bet Jeremy (JTHarvey) could answer this very thoroughly, but I'm sure others can as well. Just not me...

Powerstrokes use high oil pressure to pressurize the fuel at the injector. Other systems dedicate a pump that pressurizes the fuel itself.

A common-rail setup has a reservoir of fuel that is pressurized by a pump and fed into a fuel rail shared by by all the injectors (hence the term "common-rail"). The injectors fire by a command from the PCM.

Other setups run on piston pumps with fuel lines that feed individual unit injectors. Newer ones fire based on commands by the PCM, older ones are mechanically controlled.

I know the common rail 6.4s use a piezo electric fuel injector which uses quartz to control injection. Allows multiple injections in a short time period and the piezo design using a quartz crystal allows precision...

I don't know and I don't give a hoot. I am so busy trying to figure out how our trucks run, that I don't think about the competition. Well I don't think they are competition at the moment. But I know what you are wondering.
