Someone in my area is selling a 2 inch body lift kit on craigs list. The kit is brand new, in the box, and he claims it is for a Ford truck. He wants 50 bucks for it, brand new it goes for around 100 bucks. I'm tempted to do it. Its only 2 inches of lift, so hopefully I wont have to worry about wires not reaching, steering shaft angle and stuff like that. I want to check and make sure it will work. I have never installed a body lift kit before, and Im not sure of what Im getting into. Here's the link to the post: 2" Ford body lift kit What do you think?
Seems like a good price, but I'll be honest....I hate body lifts. I've installed a few over the years for customers but I'd never put one on anything I own. Like Franklin mentioned it will mess up the fan shroud clearance so you'll either have to remove the shroud or cut the bottom out of it. Shifter linkage will likely be an issue with an automatic and you might run into clearance problems with the transfer case shifter hitting the edge of the floor. Finally, the bumpers won't line up with the body properly unless you make brackets, as I've never seen a body lift for '80-'96 Fords from any manufacturer that included bumper relocation brackets. Personally I'd put that $50 toward a suspension lift, I know they start out at around $500 but you'll be a lot happier with it in the long run.
Ok, yea I have always been skeptical about body lifts. Ive heard too many stories about people having multiple problems. Im going to put those screw in coil boosters up front. That should about level it. Then Ill put coil spacers in the front, and blocks in the rear that are a couple inches taller than the stock blocks. Screw the body lift idea. Thanks for talking me out of it. You probably saved me a lot of headache and trouble!
