!!!alarm system malfunction!!!

--My 94.5 Powerstroke has begun to turn on me. I bought the truck used and now about 2 years, when I go to start the truck about 50% of the time it won't start with the key!! The glow plugs will heat up and you can hear them kicking off and on once they are warmed up, but the further turn of the key wont activate the starter, and I have to pop the hood and jump the starter solenoid with a screwdriver.
--Most of the time this works (although a pain) but now I am getting a more common 25 amp fuse blowing in the eng comp fuse box and the screwdriver trick won't work! I have to un-hook the batts and let it sit, I guess this re-sets the alarm sys and then I am back to 50/50 key or screwdriver starting!
--I basically want to disable the sys totaly, ANY help will be greatly apreciated!!

Are you talking about the factory installed keyless entry or aftermarket alarm? Also are you sure it is the alram and not something else? Do you have a standard transmission where the clutch peddle switch might need adjustment.

Little more information please ...

It's a Automatic tranny, and about the alarm sys I don't know weather or not it's factory or not. It had a small red light installed on the dash below the headlight switch, but someone before me ripped the wire out of it.

exactly the same symptom.

for a long time i assumed it was the alarm system, but over time i have begun to wonder if it the clutch pedal position switch. i have not bothered to track down the root cause because it starts fine with the button (i should do that someday though!)

glow plugs turn on when i turn key to the run position, then i hit the button and engine starts.

i did replace the key cylinder a while ago, but that made no difference.

Eric:
Did you replace just the "Key Cylinder" or the "Whole Ignition Switch?"

rog- just the key cylinder. the old one was sloppy and would stick occasionally, so i thought that might do the trick.

have you seen symptoms such as flohr's (and mine) caused by the whole ignition switch?

if so is this what you are talking about- (NAPA) ECH KS6667 or (NAPA) MPE KS6667SB?

Flohr, can you unlock your doors with a key without the alarm going berzerk? (i have to use my fob, otherwise the lights flash and horn beeps)

--My horn/siren dosen't sound at all (siren is disconected), and my "clicker" won't do anything but lock/unlock the doors. There is a beep-beep-beep that comes from under the dash when the key is in the ignition seperate from the normal door chime, and I can't seem to figure out what triggers the "sickness" and makes it not want to start with the key.
--Also, more than once, after a failure to start I would pop the hood and just as I get ready to jump the start solenoid the doors would lock me out!! So now I make sure I leave the door or window open.
