Engine swap question

I have a 96 f150 xlt supercab automatic with a blown 302. I have a 351 from a 92 f250 that runs. Everything looks good for swapping except the harmonic balancers. The 96 has a crank sensor with a 4 toothed exicter ring on the balancer. According to the dealers around here it was a 96 F150,F250,Bronco 302 only item. Does anyone know if the 96 351 has a crank sensor? Can I use the balancer & flexplate off the 302 on the 351??
Does a 96 351 have the exciter ring on the balancer?? Am I stuck with the 302? Any help is appreciated.

If you are asking if you can use a 302 flexplate on a 351, then you have not done your homework on this swap. No, you cannot use it. I am not sure about the exciter ring on the balancer, but you will probably have a lot more problems. What computer are you going to use? Are you planning on beefing up the tranny to handle the extra torque the 351w produces? What about mass air and firing order?

your prob going to need engine wiring ECU and a few sensors + crank sensor parts off of an F-150 351 because F-250 over 8500# GVWR has diff. engine managment. Your F-250 prob doesnt have a MAF. If not then it has speed density fuel injection, and you will need to pick one or the other.

One minor detail I forgot is you will want the wiring and ECU from a 96 F-150 351. It will be OBD II and mass air.

The issue here is engine balance, the 302 uses 50oz and the 351 uses 28oz. To make the 351 compatable with your '96 efi system you need a 96 balancer and flexplate for a 351/E4OD combo, you cannot use the parts off the 302. However, there is no need to alter or change the engine wiring or computer since it's mass air and both motors used the HO/351 firing order by then, it will adjust to the bigger motor just fine.

I knew the firing order was the same and I know I'll have to modify the exhaust pipes because the 351 is wider. but does anyone know for certain
that the 96 351 balancerhave the exciter ring on it for the cam sensor.
I don't want to order one from the dealer and find out it doesn't have the ring for the cam sensor..That's the big hold up for me. I figured I'd need the flywheel for a 96 351.

a 351 does not use a knock sensor though. I forgot 302 to 351 would have about the same engine wiring but the ECU is different.
