Swapping axles - drum to disc...?

Swapping axles - drum to disc...?
I have a DANA 44 Front Axle....closed knuckle style....which has cracked spindles...
Apparently, the spindles are obsolete as of 2007 and there does not appear to be a compatable bushing or bearing to use the newer spindles on the older axles....
So, my next option is a newer DANA 44 with Open knuckle design......the one I found used, is a Disc brake setup.....so...I know I have to swap out the proportioning valve for such a set up....already have power braking......what about my rims? I have 15x12.5 rims....they are tight on the drums...will they fit the discs and caliper assembly?
