Had a '99 XLT that a friggin' unlicensed, uninsured, no-headlight-drivin'-in-the-dark, 100% schmuck TOTALED with an early-90's vintage Camaro. Lucky for that sorry SOB I wasn't there and no one was seriously hurt...but I digress.
Anyway, after grieving for the appropriate period (a couple of months), I've taken up with a new babe--an '04 EB with a moonroof, dvd, heated AND cooled seats, and too many other neat little things to mention.
I'm thinkin' Rancho (or KYB or Bilstein or other?) shocks with Michelin LTX M/S's (or Yokohamas or other tires?) (I think it's currently got factory shocks w/pretty new Pathfinders--but I don't like the ride). I've also traditionally put Mobile-1 products in new vehicles at the first change and have never had a major engine problem. Anything wrong with that I've just been lucky to avoid?
The combo of Michelin's and Bilsteins it is a good one. The Bilsteins will give you a firmer ride than stock but imo also a better feeling of control. Mobil one syn. has worked well for many people, I have had no trouble on straight Valvoline dino oil and now Motorcraft synthetic blend.
Sounds like you've got a nice new honey. I've got Michelin's on mine with factory shocks, and as long as I keep a check on tire pressure, the ride is not bad. Mind you a new set of shocks would help I think, but just don't want to spend the money. The older couple that owned it prior to me put the Michelin's on her before trading her in. I really do thank them....a hole lot!

lol same with me. my 05 came with brand new ltx's on it.
LTX's are great tires. I put them in my wife's Explorer and she loves them (normally she doesn't care). Once my Kelly's wear out on my Expy, thats what I'm putting on. As for oil, I run Motorcraft oil & filter. Bilsteins made my 01 SD ride better that Gaberials I put on. I hope you have better luck with your new honey.
Thanks for all the condolences! I've recovered with the help of my wife's grief counseling ("Get over that damn truck!") and some good suds and eats.
I hate to admit to being a moron, but I was so friggin' PO'd about the whole episode, I didn't think to negotiate with the insurance co. to keep the LTX's I had on my '99. After it went to salvage, I thought "CRAP!" I called the ins. co. but no soap--they'd already gone to some picky-parts place (where some lucky schmo probably paid about $50 apiece for LTX's that had about 60k left on 'em (they were about a year old)). Live and learn I guess...

This happened with a spare beater car I had that I let my son drive around. A guy pulled out of a driveway and into the front side of the car. The insurance company totaled it. I did find a comparable replacement that cost me about $500 more than the insurance company paid me for the totaled car. First I sent a demand letter to the other driver for the $500, which he ignored. So I sued him in court for the $500 and won.
You have this option as well. If he fails to pay the judgment the courts can and will attach his wages or tax refunds until you are paid. His actions cost you money and you're entitled to out of pocket reimbursement.
