when i got to work this morning i backed into my spot like usual and put it in park, let it run for a few minutes til the egt's were below 300, then shut it off. when i shut it off i felt a very weird shudder that shook the truck and felt like it was coming from under my feet more towards the middle of the truck. I didn't like the sound of it and restarted my truck and it made a very similiar shudder when started, however once started their was no more shudder. I drove around a little bit and no shudder again. parked it and turned it off and it shuddered when i turned the key off. When i got out of work i started it up and it still has the shudder. drove it home hard trying to see if i could hear it while driving, but couldn't. When i got home and turned the key off the d@mn thing shuddered again...I just put the stacks on could it be rubbing on the frame somewhere...i checked it multiple times when installing and they weren't hitting anything. on the drive home it felt normal and strong. I don't even know where to start with this one.
I have noticed that some times when I turn my truck off it will shudder like somebody pulled the plug, but I think depending on what pistons are in what step might cause that. I don't know if your shudder and what I am trying to describe is the same thing. You might have a sticking torque converter where its not completely letting go. Might also be a transmission problem?
My truck shudders when I shut it down and yes I believe it started when I installed them. I think it has something to do with the exhaust pressure having to go up hill when the truck is shut down I am not sure if that is what it is or not but that is the only thing I could figure it to be. Now I can tell you that nothing is hitting it all clears fine. Also I don't know if we have the same shudder my truck when it shudders I don't feel like it is right under my feet but tomorrow when I shut it down at work I will pay close attention to see since I have had them on for over a year or better I just don't think nothing of it any more.
Edit: I was trying to reply last night but Comcast decided it would be a good time to work on the server I guess.
I found the shudder!!! and boy do i feel like an idiot. When me and my friend did the stacks I didn't go all the way to the downpipe checking to see if it was rubbing any where, and since it was rerouted from the previous exhaust, 5" mbrp, the dp shifted along with the extension pipe and both were rubbing the frame. I don't know why i didn't hear it while driving that much, but i readjusted everything and now there is no shudder at all. sounds nice and strong...must have happened after the new exhaust settled in...so happy its nothing with the transmission...i was starting to get a little worried.
well the down pipe and extension pipe were vibrating right below my feet, but i know the tranny and a lot of other expensive parts are right there as well. I had the day off and decided to crawl under there and was excited to see the exhaust rubbing up on the frame. sounds kinda weird to be excited about that, but an hour of work rerouting pipes is a heck of a lot better then the monstrous amount of money i would have spent on a new tranny!...despite this little problem...I STILL LOVE STACKS...HAHA
i also used one of the rubber grommets that i didn't need anymore and stuffed it between the frame and the extension pipe to give it plenty of clearance and to never have the exhaust rub on that again...would never notice it unless i told you where it was.
Oh yeah moving exhaust pipe is a lot better than a trans issue any day. And man I still love my stacks too never get tired of hearing them just love the sound from them.
