Hello all, its been a while since I've been on here. I have a 74 f100 with a 302 and its 2wd. I kind of bombed my motor in my truck a while back. I need the truck but cant afford a reman engine yet. Will any of the 80 or newer 302's drop in with anything other than changing the intake and ignition and things of that nature. Or will anything just drop in? A RUNNING era correct 302 is kind of hard to come by where I am at, most are sold for cores. Do I have any options? Please help!!!
The crank balance changed in like 82 from a 28oz to 50something-ish ounce. I dont know if that would effect that much(besides balancers and flywheels)-Your truck an auto?
like 79f150toy said like 1980 they changed the balancing so 80 and newer have 5o oz older flywheels where 28 oz this is for automatic trans i think there where 2 different flywheels. On 351w they are all 28 oz till 96 when they stopped making them this would bolt in also.
The exhaust manifolds won't work from a 302 to a 351 (different deck heights so exhaust pipes won't line up)
As long as you use the flywheel/flexplate that is with the engine you will be ok. Only other thing to worry about is if the replacement engine is late enough to have a serpintine belt system on it, then you will need to change the water pump and timing cover because they are different serp to v belts (water pump turns opposite direction.)
