On my 79 f-150 4x4 I have leaf springs on the front of my truck and one shock. I dont have traction bars or a place for a spring. Has my truck been messed with or did some of them come like this? I want to add a 6" lift spring. Can I go to the junkyard and pull off the spring mounts and bolt them on? Or would I have to block lift the front?
VERY CONFUSSING
Are you sure it is a 150? Don't always go with the badges! Sounds like someone might have converted a 2x to 4x with a 250 front axle or something. No 79 f150 came with leaf springs on the front. To lift it you will have to go with a new leaf pack (can't put blocks on a steering axle), or convert it to coil.
Is there another way I can tell if its a 150 or a 250? I jusst bought the truck from a old farmer and god knows what he did to it. Also is there a way to tell if it was orignally a 2wd. Thanks for the info
get the vin # from one of its locations, either on the drivers side door, on the inside just below the latch, on the passangers side of the frame up by the motor. all you will have to do is just decode the vin # and that should give you the anwsers your lookin for
You have a FE engine in your truck right? Is it a supercab? 2 wheel drive supercabs came with leafs in front. Maybe someone threw in a drive axle and you got a 4x4. What does the vin say?

4X4's and 2X4's had different spacing between the frame rails, 4X4's being closer together. My Highboy measures 34" to the outside of the rails at the rear of the truck. I believe 2X4's are 36" or 38", not positive because I've never owned one. This should help you figure iut how it came from the factory.
The vin is F14HRFB1305. it is a standard cab. the truck has a spot where the traction bars should be, a little hole. There is the possiblity to convert it to coil? is it a bolt on application or does it require welding? What would be more cost effective?
also it is a 390 for sure.
NEVER NEVER NEVER block a steer axle. Its like standing at the edge of a cliff on your tippy toes, eventually you're going to fall. There is too much lateral force on the front axle when you turn which can cause the blocks and U bolts to fold over.
