6637 Question

I'm putting my filter in and was wondering what to do with the sensor that is in the old air box. Just leave it hooked up once I remove the box?
What is this sensor?

Yes. Leave it connected but zip-tie it to the brake lines or something close by to keep it out of the way.

What Brendan said. It's called the IAT, or intake air temp sensor.

Thats what I did on both of my last installs and it never caused a problem.

I drilled a hole in my 4" pipe and took a rat tail file and filed two grooves so my sensor would fit. I have'nt had any problems and it is functional more so than if it were dangling beside the filter

Edit...what I mean 4 inch pipe... this is the pipe that I used to adapt to my filter out of exaust pipe

Nice job and very true, however the IAT does very little to affect how the truck runs.

Is this the filter minder? OR something else. I saw someone put it on the end of the filter, i think.

I am about to do this change too, just waiting on the filter.

On the later trucks you'll have to do something with the filter minder, if it has wires going to it then it needs to stay. Mine didn't so it's gone. Someone on here had found a piece of tubing with a fitting for the filter already in it from the aftermarket somewhere...

I've found the filter minders to not be too reliable so I didn't bother putting it back on when I did the 6637 mod. Since you can look right at the filter, it's kind of pointless anyway.

Bingo, but the problem is on the newer trucks (02-03 I believe) the filterminder is a sensor of sorts- it has wiring going to it and if you run without it you set off some kind of light on the dash and store a code.

Zip tied both the filter minder and the AIT on one of the break lines. Not a problem at all.

What did you all use for the short pipe? I could not find a piece of plastic pipe to fit.
