Theres a good pic of a clipless mirror housing I was talking about in the other thread...
anyway, the spotter mirror just tilt all the way in and use a flat blade screwdriver and look for the ball and socket near the middle between the backside of the glass and housing. place the screwdriver there and twist to pop the old one out. The new one just needs the rectangular looking pieces as locators. the top may need to be disassembled to get the yellowish socket mount off and the new one put in. I think it is held on from behind. The holes in the housing with threads are the adjusters and the threaded ball parts go there and the ball snaps into the mirror back. Best just click the ***** into place on the mirror, then with a screwdriver, locate the white pieces and push the mirror on and push hard in the middle of the glass to make sure the main ball locks into place
No problem. Gave me something to draw. Yeah, I noticed the mirrors didn't 'fit' visually. Maybe you could keep the old stuff. Believe me, curiousity breaks things. Those little spotters are REALLY fragile... enjoy the truck and keep the shiney side up!
So I got my lower glass out today. I attempted to install the new glass as well. Unfortunately I broke the plastic on the back of the mirror.
I was trying to put the little ball on the white piece into the little socket on the back of the mirror. I got one in ok. It took a fair bit of pressure, but I got it in. On the second one I tried the same thing, but ended up breaking the little socket on the back of the mirror. Looks like I'm buying another lower mirror glass.
I have the little piece that broke off and it fits in perfectly, but I don't know if I can trust it to keep my mirror in. Last thing I want is to have it fall off and hit some sue-happy jerk's car.
Pete -Would a big blob of silicone hold it in place or does that one move too -I gotta go out and look at mine. My passenger side bottom is cracked also. Broke it when I did the turn signal mod a while back.
