I have a strange droning noise at 30mph at cruising and slow acceleration. It happens when I am driving though town. I thought it was tire noise, but got new tires and it is still there. it goes away when I accelerate fast or get above around 40mph. Its driving me nuts....
I had a similar noise in my 2001 E-450 Motor home at about 65K, I dont know if its the same as in your truck, but mine turned out to be the right front wheel bearings. So I replaced them both, it seams Ford doesn't put much grease in then, per my mechanic, and he packed the new bearing's with four times the amount of grease. No more noise.
Its easy to test for, just jack the front end up and slowly turn the front wheels, if a baring is rough you should feel it.
Try this as it may be what you are describing.
An issue with the older version of air intake hoses where the smaller hose would give off a harmonic vibration in the cross over the engine portion of the hose at a certain flow rate.
It was almost like a beginning year tuba player.
The fix was the same hose with a slight angle but if you gave OEM a small twist so it would slightly kink/bend the noise went away.
You could also use a wire tie and pull an angle in the hose. Or buy the upgrade from the dealer.
Harmless but annoying.

Any help would be nice
Sounds like the classical "flutter". Does it happen right around (or near) 1800-2000RPMS?
