is there anyone close to northeast pennsylvania that i could meet up with and they could possibly drive my truck to tell me if i have a boost leak because my friend told me that his work truck doesnt sound like mine.....so i took it to our local dealership they said everything was fine...but i was just wondering cuz im only gettin like 13 mpg avg???anybody have any suggestions
Sure, we have lots of suggestions. Maybe your friend has a leak. Tell us more about your truck and how it sounds. If you checked all the boots and the up-pipes, there may be something else that may not be right.
Do you have an aftermarket air intake? That could be a sound difference. How do those two pipes coming off of the turbo look, black at the top? The ones behind the turbo going down along the firewall.
Welcome to FTE. Depending on what truck you have, that could be normal. My crew cab long bed gets about 12-13 in the winter right now. I see that you have an 02 F250. What cab setup and bed length do you have? 2 or 4wd?
4WD's get less milleage, and of course the heavier the truck the less milleage you will get. So CC long bed with all the bells and whistles is going to get less than the regular cab short bed xl.
well i will start off when your driving the truck it sounds fine as well my friends f 550 work truck but when you stomp on it for some reason it sounds like its losing air somewhere i just cant find it my friends truck only has 10k miles and its a 02 so i figured there gotta be somethin wrong with mine since its got 108k on it all my boots are filfthy i havent got around to cleaning them yet but it somewhat sounds like air is bubbling out somewhere and i have a f250 cc lb 4x4
cleaning ur boots will make a big difference use a degreaser like simple green and clean inside and outside of the boots, snug down all the clamps good and tight. the ccv mod is a good place to start it keeps the boots cleaner and lessens the chance for leaks. use hairspray on the inside of the boots when reinstalling to tack em up to seal better. also inspect ur boots for any cracks or rips.
The boost goes through these boots. Take them off and clean them, then put them back on snug. This is the first thing to do when you hear air escaping from the engine compartment.
Welcome to FTE!! Could be # of things, did you check for leaks yet? Is your air cleaner bad? Pull the intake pipe off the turbo, look at the turbo wheel is it dirty, try moving it in and out, up and down, is it nicked up on the edges? The 2 pipes that come up from the manifold to the turbo, is there soot at the dounuts near the Y pipe behind the turbo? Check all the boots on the IC pipes. The pipe on the drivers side, with the ugly insulation on it sometimes rubs thru near the power steering pump on one of the lines that come off of it. Where do you live near in PA? Im near allentown..
i live close to bloomsburg only about 1 hr from allentown but im goin to try tonight to take off all my boots and clean them good im also gettin a new air filter im goin to try the 6637 mod how hard is the ccv mod ?
also i have no mods currently just use it for a everyday driver but would like to make some more power in the future
Not hard at all.. I'll send you an email at the one you have listed in your profile with my cell#. Give me a call if you can I work 3rd shift get off around 7:15 am go to bed around 2:00pm. Drinking a beer right now best time to call (now)
Welcome to FTE Josh. You could do the foil delete mod while your cleaning your IC pipes, just throwing it out there, it's easy enough and will dress up your engine compartment.
