I second a 5 gallon HD bucket with a lid. I have a leveling kit and it fits perfect.

I've been through 3 of those Walmart drain pans and won't buy another. The caps crack and are not replaceable. (Unless you steal one from another drain pan and I'm not going to do that.)

Any plastic bucket will do. If you use a bucket that has had chemicals inside of it you should definitely take the time to neutralize the chemicals! Chlorine and oil are a very hazardous combination!

Avg cost for an oil change DIY

I just got back from Ford and paid $97 for an oil change. I have always done my own changes with all the trucks/cars I have owned. I would like ot start to prefrom them on my own, but if the price is about the same, I will use Ford.

Can anyone tell me what they spend on an oil change? I have a 05 F350 Diesel.....just got it on Sat.

Thanks,
Mike821

When i would use motorcraft 15w40 and a motorcraft filter from walmart, it was always $55 dollars. Now that i have stepped up to 5w40 rotella synthetic, its about $90

That's about right.
When I bought my truck the dealer gave me a free oil change as part of a customer satisfaction campaign. I cashed it in and they billed Ford $91 for an oil change.

Get your 6.0 a Fumoto drain valve, Part #F111, and it will be easier and cleaner for you to do an oil change yourself.

FUMOTO ENGINEERING

You can get the oil filters from Diesel Filters online for $13.95 Ford 6.0 and 6.4 Liter Turbo Diesel Racor Filtration PFL2016 Oil Filter(FPL-2016)

or find the Pep Boys paper when they offer 2 for $7.00 deals on Fram filters which are licensed by Racor.

Don't buy Wix or any 'will-fit' oil filters as they will let debris pass through. There are multiple threads on this subject alone!

Congrats on the new PSD!

Harbor freight has a drain valve for about $5 that uses a push in type of valve release. Takes a connector with a hose, screw in to open. when finished remove and then install a cover over the valve. Got one on my motorcycle, I dont know if they will fit this motor but I am sure they cost less, do the same basic job, no muss no fuss.

I have found how to drain the "extra 3 quarts" on a 7.3L. Found how to do it on powerstrokehelp.com BUT I can't find or figure out how to get out the "extra 3" on a 6.0.

Anyone know how?

BTW powerstrokehelp.com is a really bad **** site. LOADS of info and videos

You are still gonna have a few quarts left in the HP oil system that wont come out. At least i have never seen a way on here to get it completely out. How do you get all of it out of a 7.3L?

There is a plug that you can remove from the top (on the 7.3L), then you have to use a vacuum pump to get out one quart...put a quart back in...run motor 5 minutes...pull out one more quart...yada yada
You do this three times and by the last quart the oil is clean. The oil in there and along the injector rails doesn't actually circulate as good/as much as you would think. Therefor those three quarts are always kind of dirty. You know when you change your oil then check it the next day or so and it seems dirty...those 3 quarts is why.
go to powerstrokehelp.com under 7.3 and I think the video is titled 7.3 injector longevity...you can see him explain it and show you how it's done. That site is VERY cool and really offers great info with videos to explain everything.

It is an awesome site for sure. I found out his operation is less than an hour from my college and less than an hour from my hometown. I have to do an internship to graduate and i can choose any business i want to intern at. I sent an email to Mr. Hewitt telling him how big of a Powerstroke nut i am and wondered if they would be interested in letting me intern with them and now i have a meeting with him friday to discuss the terms. I hope it works out! Im really excited about the potential opportunty to intern there!!
