Keyless Entry

Does anyone know how to tell if a truck has the keyless entry without having the remote. I have an 05 f-350 xlt fx4 diesel 6spd that i bought used and did not have a remote. Also does anyone know how to program the remote? Any info would be great. Thanks

Instructions for programming a remote are buried in your owner's manual. When I programmed a spare remote it was easy enough to do after about 3 tries.

You should be able to get a copy of the truck's "window sticker" if you ask a dealer. This would tell you for sure what came with the truck when it was delivered.

A build sheet will tell you if it has Keyless entry. Ask the parts guy "Ed" He has so nice about sending them.

Hi Jump,

If you find out you need a remote here is a ebay fellow I've purchased a few remotes from in the past year or so '05 '06 '07 F250 F350 Remote. He was very helpfull and informative for me. He may even be able to offer you assistance with your question? (how to tell if a Truck has the keyless entry without having the remote) Might be worth a try if no one here can answer it for you.

ALSO:
If you know someone with a similar vehicle as yours with keyless access with a remote (many years of remotes will work) all you need to do is borrow his or her remote and follow the programming procedure on your Truck using the borrowed remote. If you get it to work then you're all set. Just reprogram it on the Truck it was borrowed from and order yourself a new remote.

THE FOLLOWING WORKS FOR MY '02 F-350. I would imagine it should be the same for your '05 but please take the time to confirm this so you don't end up waisting your time. The procedure should be available in your owners manual also.

How to reprogram your remote entry transmitters
You must have
all remote entry transmitters (maximum of four)
available before beginning this procedure.
To reprogram the remote entry
transmitters:

1. Ensure the vehicle is
electronically unlocked.

2. Put the key in the ignition.

3. Turn the key from the 2 (LOCK)
position to 3 (OFF).

4. Cycle, eight times, rapidly (within
10 seconds) between the 3 (OFF)
position and 4 (ON).
Note: The
eighth turn must end in the 4 (ON) position.

5. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that the programming
mode has been activated.

6. Within 20 seconds press any button on the remote entry transmitter.

Note:
If more than 20 seconds have passed you will need to start the
procedure over again.

7. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that this remote entry
transmitter has been programmed.

8. Repeat Step 6 to program each additional remote entry transmitter.

9. Turn the ignition to the 3 (OFF) position after you have finished
programming all of the remote entry transmitters.

10. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that the programming

mode has been exited.

.

My Bad,,, Maybe take a look to see if there is a FTE sponsor link to order from before ebay.

I didn't campare the '05 to my '02 copy word for word, but here's a copy of the '05 programming procedure just in case.

I'm making a wild *** assumption here. But it would seem to me, that if the OP's truck didn't have the keyless entry option, that this programming procedure would not work and if he tried it and reached step 5, the doors WOULDN'T lock and unlock.

It would follow logically (maybe) then, that if his truck DID have the keyless entry option, that the programming steps would work and when he got to step 5 his doors WOULD lock and unlock.

So it seems to me that he ought to try this procedure. If he gets to step 5 and his doors lock and unlock, then he could assume that he has the keyless entry option, go and buy a remote and try it out. If they didn't, he could probably assume he does not have the option.

There would be no harm in going through the steps up to 5 to try this out.

Yup, That is the basic idea.
If it works he has the keyless entry package.
If it doesn't work he doesn't have the keyless entry package.

It's a pretty simple process. I've been trough it several times. It should prove to be a sure fire way to confirm if he does or does not have the keyless package in his Truck.

Rick...
.
edit:
I should say,,, I've been through the process several times with my '02 which does not have the key pad, but it will still get him the answer he's looking for.
