water pump

Seems the Napa water pump installed 2 1/2 years ago is beginning to give out and called a number of the local Ford dealerships and none of them carry Motorcraft water pumps for the early model engines, 68 289ci taken to 302ci. Advise to search for an after market variety. Found online sources but I don't want to deal with possibility of ordering wrong part, could hold project up for few weeks. Anyhow, there are couple options, replace with another Napa; not incline to want to do so, or go with couple unfamiliar brands; 'Hi Tech' (life time warranty), or ASC, and wonder if any members have any experience with either, only few $ difference between brands. Also, told alum pumps problematic. Any suggestions, rec's appreciated.

In addition, been driving the 65 for some 40 yrs and it seems to be taking forever to warm these ole bones up, wonder if it would help by swapping the 180 degree thermostat for a 160 or 190. Thanks !

Seemed to cured the problem, a little 'tri-flow' lubricant and no longer squealing like a pig. Think I will drive it 2-3 weeks before adding the anti freeze.

There are folks that will rebuild any water pump you want rebuilt. That's one route but it does take time. I realize that it is getting harder to get good aftermarket from anyone these days. The big chains are driving down the quality and the smaller guys have to by the junk to be able to sell at competetive prices to stay in bussiness. I use to always feel good about NAPA stuff, but my buddy that has owned a NAPA store for years told me to "make sure to keep my receipts", if you know what I mean!

Seem to recall Mexico stamped on the box. Imagine Napa has a good quality control policy. Have a number of Napa components and not had any problems. Imagine if I wanted to put out the bucks they can run up to $300. Not sure how long the quick fix will last, likely will replace while weather permits, experience tells me it will go out in the middle of a rain storm. Meantime, intend taking a look at the 'Hi Tech' water pump with the life time warranty.

That's exactly when it will go out and when your far from home.lol You might have just got a bad rebuild my napa waterpump has worked fine for years but I do have the 352 so they're a different animal all together. Your heating problem may be something else though I have a 180 thermo and man it will cook me right out of the truck. Make sure your flaps are actually closing and opening in the heater box or if you have the temp control on the heater hose that it's not jammed, not opening all the way could put strain on the pump and be a sourse of your slow heating. That's all I got good luck Dave.
