Hard- wont start in cold

So ive been having problems starting my Excursion lately. havent been plugging in (cord off of block warmer is no good). sputters then dies. starts after 3rd try. runs fine when warm. left it at dealer last nite for a cold start check this morn. was in single digit temps in a.m. just called me and told me first code that came up was the FICM is no good. cant get it started. will push in and finish other diag. before they replace the module. i mentioned to check if the Ex. has the Inductive heat flash. Service manger replys
" what is that?" all i can think is O- SH-T, here we go again!

I am having the same issue with mine and I have the inductive heating flash. Chances are when they replace the FICM they will install the new flash for the PCM also. I havent gotten a call from the dealer yet so I can tell you what it is.

Good Luck and Hope you make out ok.

Mine had this last fall, and after installing the inductive heat flash and replacing all the injectors with no joy, they changed the cam position sensor, and I have not had a problem since. Other than I lost a couple of miles per gallon with the newer flash.

other than the Flash and FICM.

Are you guys using syntetic oil?? Makes a huge difference in the cold climates, quicker starts, runs quieter, here is the BIGGIE less stress on the HPOP. Don't forget your injector need good oil pressure to work

To help with very cold starts. Use 10W30 oil as reccommended in owners manual. Every Thanksgiving I put it in and drain it then when we have spring break I put in 15W40.

Just found out that I have an injector that went bad. Just waiting for the install now. Guess that Hot SHots Secret didnt work for me. Anyway I will be switching to Rotella Synthetic 5w40 once I get the truck back.

We shall see. I only have 1 that went bad...the number 1. Brooklyn, do your injectors still rattle like they did before or not. This is 1 question I cant seem to get an answer too. Only Bismic let me know his dont. Let me know if yours do or dont.

Thanks,

Sarge
