Power steering mod

Anyone know what or how to modify power steering pump or box to make the truck steer easier with bigger tires? Thanks

I think I remember reading here that someone put a pump in from an F-550 to help with that. I do not know (for sure) if there is a difference in the pumps but I do seem to remember reading about that.

Are you referring to adjusting the nut on the back of the steering box? If so, just do it a little at a time to see if you notice a difference.

Nooo

No. I need to increase the pressure from the pump in order to turn 35's at idle and low speeds.

Its supposed to help remove slop from the steering box, but if you over-do it your steering box can bind (not good) or go completely TU on you (even more not good).

I did this on my bronco's Saginaw pump and it does work well. the box leaks faster now.

I did not see a way to shim the gen. 2 ford PS pump that are on 80s and 90s fords and PSDs.

Mod

Adjusting the nut only removes slop in the steering. This mod increases pressure from the pump. The hydroboost should be modded by making the fluid passages larger. As in 5/8 instead of what they are now. Allows for steering at idle and low speeds with larger tires.

You went from asking.....to telling us how to do it Nowhere in that link does it say anything about a Ford powersteering pump. Jeep's and Chevy's are the only type I saw
