do any of you know how these sound compared to 40 series original??? and how it would sound if i just replaced my stock muffler with one and dumped it right after the muffler??? or do you think is should use it and have a y put after it with dual pipes coming out the back???
A one chamber flowmaster is a little louder than the two chamber. What engine is in your truck? Why put a y-pipe after the muffler when you can buy a 2 chamber dual outlet muffler?
Dan
i have bronco with a 302, and wouldn't the single chamber be louder than the 2 chamber??? the single chamber only comes in single in single out so i would have to use a y behind the muffler to have duals coming out the back.
does anyone know what it would sound like if i just put the single chamber on and dumped it???
flowmaster 40 original VS. flowmaster 30 series "same question" I already answered the question "yes" single chamber would be louder than a two chamber. As for how it would sound with dumps "louder than with tailpipes" You should checkout sound clips.com. Good Luck, it is hard trying to figure out what exhaust to put on a truck. Trust me I know took me about two months to decide what to do with mine. Question is how loud do you want your truck? Do you have to deal with emissions? How much do you want to spend? Is there a cat. on your truck? Sorry so long you have been posting awhile about differant setups. Answer some of these questions and I'm sure we could help steer you in the right direction. And yes, I am out of breath.

they are but they don't sound as good. In my opinion the 40's series sound more than makes up for it not being as loud. My friend had them on a built 460 and I have 3" 40's on a FE 416 and mine sounded a lot better than his, even in his opinion. The only time his sounded worth a damn was when he was really on the pipe with it, then it sounded raw but the rest of the time it sucked. If you want the true sound of HP the Flowmaster 40's are the best way to go unless you want to get race bullets or some thing but I think the FM's sound better than that even. I know I always brag about the sound of my pickup, but I have headers and 3 in pipe with centered 40's dumped under my bed with 4.5 in tips and it's muscle in it's purest state. If you were standing behind it in the morning when I first start it up, it would be ear candy to you, if it didnt knock you over. Even in the winter i leave my door open to start it just because it sounds so burly when it first fires up. The only problem with the 40's is EVERYONE has them, but if you cant beat em join em. Hope that helps
the 30's sounded really tinny and bad. i took em off shortly after i put em on. needless to say, i was disappointed. Heck, thrush glasspacks sound better! rather than go WITH the crowd, i like to be different---i was thinking of trying an experiment: butt 2 different glasspacks together and see how that sounds. more specifically, mate a thrush pack with a reversed purple hornie and then run a huge *ss tip...hmmmm....makes me kind of want to try it! nevertheless, steer clear of the 30 flows!

Purple hornies... man I been eyeballing those things for a while. Ford_nut... got any experience with those? Hows the sound quality for being a glasspack? I think I enjoy tinkering with my exhaust too much
Hey Ak-happy new year dude!
Nah, no experience with those...YET However, I have heard from someone here on the board that these packs have louvers that stick out into the exhaust flow. If mind serves me right, these louvers inhibit flow. That is why you reverse the packs where the louvers go WITH the flow of gas not facing the flow..I hope this makes sense. If you ever saw the thrush packs ( I have them on my 75, they are straight through with just lil holes--these packs sound good too!
One day I want to try the hornies but summit doesnt have them listed in their catalog

The first exhaust I ever had on mine was the headers, 2.5 inch pipe with some big (35") Blue Streak glasspacks exiting 1 behind each rear tire. These glasspacks were louvered as well as opposed to the perforated ones. My system sounded really nice at idle but it sounded choppy and "glasspacky" at cruise speeds. Plus they were pretty quiet unless I was on it pretty heavy. Bottom line, it sounded ok but not the way i think a big bad blue oval should. next I cut the tailpipes off hoping for more noise. Bad move because then it sounded really ratty and all of the tone was gone so it was just noise. Shortly after I had the above mentioned system installed and my quest for the perfect sound came to an end. The only pack I would ever even try are the race bullets or Borla Sportsman mufflers and thats it, otherwise a chambered muffler is the way to go. Not many people know about these mufflers, but Mac makes a chambered muffler that sounds pretty cool also and so does Spintech. I have a motto that I live by: NEVER TRUST A GLASSPACK!
