'60 F100 Engine Wiring

'60 F100 Engine Wiring
I'm trying to start the 223 engine in my F-100 but all it will do is buzz and a little smoke comes from the neg. battery cable
. I have a ground from the bellhousing to the firewall, positive from battery to starter solinoid, and ground from battery to solinoid and from starter to solinoid. Any ideas???

You should be running the negative battery cable directly to a bolt on your engine block or at the bell housing. Then a separate grounding strap, one each, from the engine or bell housing to both firewall/cab and to frame.
Positive battery cable goes to BATT post on the Starter Solenoid.
If a cable is sparking, it's loose or it's a bad cable that's partly cut or corroded through - tighten it or replace it.
