Windshield Washer Adjustment - 2003 E250
#2
On my '92 and '99 the washer spray heads are molded right into the cowling under the wiper arms; no adjustment! I noticed that the spray seems to be a little week and low on the window. I imagine that the pump is probably not running at full power. I'm planning on checking all the conections to make sure it is getting all the power that it should. If that doesn't work i may replace the pump or install some of those lighted sprayer heads and point them where I want them. My wife's minni van has sprayer heads in the wiper arm that is realy nice mabye I'll look to see if I can put something like that on my E-350.

I realize that this is an old thread.....
I'm on my 2nd '07 E-250 and both have had the same problem with the
spray pattern. The drivers side shoots right over the top of the windshield onto the roof unless I'm going over 40 mph, above 40 mph the wind blows it down on the shield. Is there any way to adjust the aim?

I think the only adjustment is getting the dead leaves and crap out of the plastic cowl grille at the base of the windshield to angle the rear down just a bit. My '02's nozzles always shoot the wiper fluid over the top unless I'm at speed... I think I had the dealer clean and snug down the cowl grille when my van was almost new as a warranty adjustment thing. Seemed to help for a few minutes or so
As was said previously in this thread, I don't think there is no factory height adjustment--but please let me know of one, anybody.
I've thought of Extreme Measures like hitting the mounting points with a heat gun to soften the plastic and tilt the nozzles down a bit, or shaving the plastic at the mounting point to change the angle but am afraid of doing more harm than good.
Wonder if there are any aftermarket or other model nozzles that could be subbed?

When the midwest weather breaks I'll be replacing my cowl-mounted squirters with wiper arm mounted types---absolutely HATE the current arrangement!
For those not that motivated I've read but never tried adjusting or aiming the existing squirters by inserting a needle or similar into the tiny openings and gently re-directing the spray. Completely a trial & error process but might be the solution here? If they're damaged they're about $10 each, fairly easy to replace without any specialized tools.
FWIW in the past I've replaced other misdirected nozzles with brand new, even replaced the pump but to no avail. The spray still hits the upper 1/3 of the W/S and roof, running down and leaving streams or streaks long after the wipers park.

Hey JWA--the old style squirters traditionally had a little ball in socket that you could (and I always did) adjust with a needle, but the Ford squirters on my '02 actually throw up a fan shaped stream (with the fan spreading over a vertical pattern). The little ball things used to throw out a single stream. (My '91 BMW has two ball and socket squirters per side, for instance.)
I recall when the dealer was working on mine during the first year of ownership (when I requested they fix the squirters under warranty) that they said there was no adjustment on these; again, I think they just removed the cowl covering, cleaned out the junk at the base of the windshield junction, and that helped.

Mine spray high as well. I just read this thread and think (we) are attempting drastic solutions to a pretty minor problem. What I do is simply to just quickly push the squirt button (vs. just holding it and having the pump work to it's 100% pumping ability).
In other words...little micro bursts of fluid. Seems to work just fine for me. I find the fact that the wipers INSIST on going through 2 or 3 wipes whenever you call for a fluid squirt is more aggravating than the squirt angle. Instead of a nice final wipe of a wet window I get scraping dry wipes for the last 2 wipes. Seems to always leave lines. Not to mention it sounds like it's tearing the wiper apart. HMHO DDT
